Township Revitalization Improvement Project (T.R.I.P.)
The Township Revitalization Improvement Project Management Committee was formed in May 2005. The Committee’s main objectives are to involve the residents, business owners, community agencies/organizations and elected representatives of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen in addressing key concerns and issues that affect the community as a whole. With the identification of these concerns and issues the committee proceeded to develop and implement a strategy and action plan designed to revitalize Havelock-Belmont-Methuen with the emphasis being placed on the community’s downtown. The Management Committee feels by helping to strengthen our downtown, we will strengthen the whole Township. The Township Revitalization Improvement Project Management Committee meets once every month and has representation from local building owners, local merchants, community organizations, municipal representatives and residents of the community that are interested in revitalizing their community.
The Committee’s mandates are to:
- Establish an organizational system to manage and lead the ongoing revitalization effort
- Ensure the organization secures the commitment of the key groups and organizations that might be involved in the revitalization efforts
- Foster an environment that will allow open dialogue among the stakeholders
- Access a source of stable and sustainable local funding to support the implementation of the group’s work
- Recognize the need for management staff or services as required
- Define the revitalization area in which to focus the effort
- Commit to a comprehensive revitalization approach
- Create strategic public/private partnerships for project implementation
- Follow an incremental approach
- Commit to the principles of economic and social development, and of historic preservation.
